Kilauea Volcano Update; 650 Ft Lava Fountains, Blue Lava May Have Erupted

The Brief

  • Kilauea produced sustained lava fountains of up to about 656 ft (200 m) on November 5, 2026, according to the description.
  • The eruption had an unusually high lava effusion rate.
  • Lava pooled and ignited elemental sulfur deposits, which the description says may have produced a blue flame if it had happened at night.
  • The video includes a timeline of eruptive episodes and a new southwest vent.

Why watch · It describes an unusual lava-sulfur ignition at an active volcano that could be visible as blue fire at night.

Yesterday, on November 5th 2026, Kilauea produced a sustained series of up to 656 foot or 200 meter high lava fountains. This eruptive episode had an unusually high lava effusion rate, and because this lava pooled up and ignited elemental sulfur deposits that had formed, it may have done something special. While not visible in the daytime, this reaction likely turned some sulfur to liquid, which then ignited, and that may have been visible as a blue fire if this had instead taken place at night.
